Late last week, after a lousy start against the Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays placed starter Jesse Litsch on the disabled list with a shoulder impingement. The Jays initially considered having Litsch skip just one start to let the swelling go down, but they opted instead to give him two weeks off. For Litsch's part, he was planning to rest for a few days before throwing again. The vibe at the time was that nothing was seriously wrong.
Jesse Litsch Shoulder Injury Still Barking
Well, that may be the case, but via John Lott, we find out that things aren’t going as smoothly as Litsch and the organization would like:
But after throwing at 90 feet on flat ground in Dunedin, Fla., [Litsch] is still feeling soreness and will visit Jays’ physician Steve Mirabello in nearby Palm Harbor, manager John Farrell said Wednesday.
Litsch has had a setback, and it’s going to push back his timeline. Originally, Litsch was to miss two starts. Now he’s a virtual lock to miss more.
For however long Litsch is out, the Blue Jays will keep handing the ball to Carlos Villanueva. In Villanueva's first spot start on Monday against the Yankees, he allowed one run in five innings while striking out five. Not a bad way to make an impression.
