Disabled Yankees reliever Rafael Soriano was throwing on flat ground Tuesday when he had to stop due to soreness in his trick elbow. The Yankees immediately sent Soriano for his second MRI of the season, and then they scheduled him for a Wednesday appointment with Dr. James Andrews. The prognosis? Soriano doesn't need surgery, but he's going to miss quite some time.
Rafael Soriano Out At Least 6-8 Weeks With Elbow Inflammation
Yankees setup man Rafael Soriano will be out another 6-8 weeks after being diagnosed with an inflamed ligament in his right elbow.
Soriano doesn’t have any significant ligament tearing, which is good news, but Andrews has recommended that Soriano rest for the next two weeks before very gradually building himself back up with a throwing program.
If everything goes well from here, Soriano should return to the Yankees sometime in July. By some miracle, the possibility still exists that a healthy Soriano could be an important contributor down the stretch. But if we’ve learned anything from Rafael Soriano’s career, it’s that everything doesn’t always go well.
