Gilberto Silva has joined the long list of Brazilian players head back home signing with Grêmio.

The 34 year old midfielder began his career with América Mineiro and Atlético Mineiro before moving across the Atlantic where he spent six seasons with Arsenal in the English Premier League and the last three seasons with Panathinaikos in the Super League Greece.
Silva has signed an 18 month contract with the side from Porto Alegre. Last season Grêmio finished fourth in the Serie A which qualified them for this year’s Copa Libertadores. They were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Universidad Católica.
The Brazilian international has had a very decorated club and international career. With Arsenal he won the 2003-2004 Premier League and the 2003 and 2005 FA Cup. In Greece he won the 2010 Super League Greece and Greek League Cup. Since debuting for Brazil, Silva has won the 2002 World Cup, 2005 and 2009 Confederations Cup, and he captained his country to the 2007 Copa America win.
