Gordon Beckham Injures Face On Bad Bounce

The Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are going head-to-head Friday night. With the score all even 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Juan Rivera blasted a fly ball off the fence in center field. Not only was the throw back to the infield too late to get Rivera at second base; it also took a wicked bounce and hit second baseman Gordon Beckham in the face.

Beckham immediately fell to the ground holding his face in his hands, and came out of the game while obviously in a great deal of pain. He was replaced by Dallas McPherson, who took over third base, with Omar Vizquel shifting from third to second.

There’s no word on the severity of Beckham’s injury, or even on what part of his face is injured, although it appeared as though the ball caught him in the eye. We will keep you updated as we learn more. Beckham owns a .230 average and has yet to get going this season at the plate.
