Late Friday night, Nationals starter Tom Gorzelanny was placed on the disabled list with elbow soreness. This is often a cause for real concern, so the Nationals sent Gorzelanny for an MRI, but after the examination, there's only good news. Via Adam Kilgore:
Tom Gorzelanny Expects Short Stint On DL
After an MRI on his left elbow revealed no damage, Tom Gorzelanny expects to miss only two starts while on the disabled list with inflammation on his throwing elbow. Gorzelanny is eligible to come off the disabled list June 8.
So, aside from a little discomfort, there’s nothing wrong in there. Gorzelanny says that he felt a similar way in 2008 and tried to pitch through it, and that he learned something from that experience after he struggled real bad.
So he’ll take a little break, and then he should be right back in two weeks. The Nationals haven’t announced who’s going to take his place in the rotation, but it’s expected to be Yunesky Maya. Maya has a 3.79 ERA with AAA Syracuse, with 45 strikeouts and 12 walks.
