Luke Donald Will Be No. 1 In World Golf Rankings Following BMW PGA Championship Victory
Both golfers finished at 6-under after 18 holes, after Donald missed a birdie putt to win on the final hole. They returned to the 18th, where Donald landed one in the middle of the fairway, while Westwood wound up hitting into the crowd and eventually saw his ball roll into the water for a penalty. Donald reached the green safely and sank the winning birdie putt on the par 5 hole.
Donald had been making up ground Westwood of late, and missed a chance to take the top spot last week when he lost to Ian Poulter in the Volvo World Match Play Championship. When the latest rankings are release, he will be the 15th different player to reach the No. 1 ranking. Westwood will fall to No. 2, while the rest of the top five should remain the same with Martin Kaymer, Phil Mickelson and Graeme McDowell rounding it out.
