Sad news out of Spain today as 20-year-old Bolton Wanderers midfielder Marcos Alonso is reported to have been involved in a fatal car accident in Madrid, crashing a BMW into a wall into the middle of the city. Although Alonso, on loan with the Trotters from Real Madrid, was apparently unhurt, a passenger died and three more were injured, including his brother. Worse still there are allegations of alcohol being involved. Here's the statement from the Spanish courts:
Bolton Midfielder Marcos Alonso Involved In Fatal Car Accident
Preliminary investigating court No4 in Madrid yesterday released footballer Marcos Alonso Mendoza, who is suspected of having committed an alleged crime against road safety, driving while over the alcohol limit, a crime of negligent homicide and causing of reckless injury.
In addition, the judge has imposed precautionary measures to withdraw his driving licence and impose a driving ban throughout the national territory for the duration of the instruction process.
No matter what the circumstances, this is a desperately sad incident in Alonso’s life. One has to imagine that his career has taken a huge blow as a result of this - and that isn’t even mentioning the personal distress he and the families of the woman who died must be undergoing right now. The trial set to take place eight months from now.
