Stuart Pearce Announces 40-Man Squad For 2011 U-21 European Championships

England U-21 manager Stuart Peace has announced his 40-man squad for the U-21 European Championships this summer, including Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Liverpool strike Andy Carroll in the preliminary roster. This move is likely to infuriate Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has expressed the opinion that since Wilshere now has caps for the senior side he should no longer be picked for the U-21s. Wilshere has appeared in over fifty matches for Arsenal this season and the club has a very real fear that he won't have enough time to rest if he participates in the tournament.

Pearce, on the other hand, wants to select the best players available to him - which definitely includes Wilshere and Carroll. Those in favour of including players already included in the senior squad site the success of the German players who won the U-21 tournament at the World Cup, andthere’s another telling piece of the puzzle: Jack Wilshere has expressed his desire to play.
