When Mets first baseman Ike Davis originally hurt his ankle in an on-field collision with David Wright and was placed on the DL, there was some hope that he'd only be out for the minimum amount of time. He returned pretty quickly to most baseball activities. However, he's still having trouble running and seems likely to have his sore ankle reexamined:
Ike Davis To Have Ankle Injury Examined In New York
Ike Davis, who continues to be tormented by a bone bruise in his left ankle that he suffered in a May 10 collision with David Wright in Denver, intends to fly to New York for another examination with team doctors later Monday.
It doesn’t hurt Davis to hit, and he can run on an underwater treadmill, but when he tries to run on normal ground, he’s still hurting. Bone bruises can be tricky things.
Davis has already been out beyond the minimum 15 days, and at this point there's no timetable for his return. Until he comes back, first base will be manned by Daniel Murphy, who's batted .268 so far with four home runs. Davis' .925 OPS still stands as the highest on the team.
