Virginia vs. Maryland: Briggs, Cavaliers Lead 6-4 After Three Quarters

The Maryland Terrapins struck first in the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Championship but the Virginia Cavaliers dominated the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the locker room. The third quarter slowed back down in terms of scoring but Virginia maintains a 6-4 lead heading into the final period.

Colin Briggs started the second half for the Cavaliers the same way he ended the first one, by scoring. Briggs won a foot-race with multiple Terrapin defenders and shot it past Amato to make it 6-3. Not only was it the first three-point lead of the day but it was Virginia’s fourth-straight goal.

Grant Catalino finally got Maryland back on the board with his second goal of the day at the 6:58 mark. He ripped one from the top of the box, right past the goalie. Suddenly, the Terps had some momentum back after going almost 16 minutes with a score.

Maryland will need to get their offense in gear if they want a chance to win this game and the National title. One quarter left to do it.
