Sam LeCure Injury: Forearm Strain Sends Righty To DL

When the Reds and Phillies played each other for 19 innings last week, Reds righty Sam LeCure was unavailable for action due to tightness in his right forearm. He then couldn't get loose in time to pitch Saturday, so rather than wait it out and hope that LeCure gets better in a few days, the Reds have placed him on the disabled list. Via John Fay:

Walt Jocketty has never gone through a period quite like this. Sunday, the Reds added left-hander Tom Cochran to the roster, placed Sam LeCure on the 15-day disabled list and transferred Matt Maloney to the 60-day disabled list.

The Reds don’t seem too concerned that LeCure is dealing with anything substantial here, but they’re so thin on pitching at the moment that they can’t afford to carry a reliever who can’t pitch.

Given that LeCure has been one of the team’s better pitchers - he has eight walks, 30 strikeouts, and a 3.18 ERA in 34 innings - this is bad news for Cincinnati. Cochran is a 28-year-old lefty with more walks than strikeouts this year with AAA Louisville. Don’t expect him to get much of a look.
