Twins slugger Jim Thome has played in only one game since April 24 due to an injury. He was initially diagnosed with a slight oblique strain, and was considered day-to-day. But his return to the lineup kept getting pushed back, and after he finally played again on April 30, he woke up the next morning feeling unusually stiff. Thome had aggravated his injury by playing, and on Tuesday the Twins placed Thome on the disabled list.
Jim Thome Oblique Injury Sends Slugger To DL
The DL stint is retroactive to May 1, and will give Thome plenty of time to rest up and get better so that this oblique injury doesn't continue to bother him later on. Jason Kubel started at DH on Tuesday and probably will get the lion's share of time there until Thome returns.
Over 66 trips to the plate this season, Thome has batted .214 with two home runs. Sadly, his .708 OPS stands as the second-best on the entire team.
Trevor Plouffe was recalled to take Thome’s spot on the roster.
