Having been shamed Tuesday night when they were no-hit by Francisco Liriano, the Chicago White Sox came out on Wednesday angry, and Juan Pierre singled in the team's first at bat of the game. Unfortunately for them, there would only be five more hits to follow, and the White Sox fell to the Minnesota Twins 3-2.
Twins Vs. White Sox: Chicago Gets Six Whole Hits, Still Loses
Neither starting pitcher was the picture of excellence. For Chicago, John Danks went eight innings, but walked three while striking out zero. For Minnesota, Nick Blackburn went 6.2 innings, but walked four while striking out one. The entire game featured a combined nine walks and two strikeouts.
But there still wasn't much in the way of offense, and the Twins were able to eke out just as many runs as they needed. Jason Kubel came through with an RBI single in the first, and the eventual winning run scored on a Rene Tosoni single in the sixth.
On the White Sox's side, Alex Rios blasted a solo homer in the third, and Paul Konerko trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a sac fly in the eighth.
The White Sox were able to make things interesting in the ninth against Matt Capps, as a single and a hit-by-pitch put two runners on with only one out. But Omar Vizquel and Pierre each flew out to right to end the game, dropping the Sox to a miserable and league-worst 11-21.
Thus concluded a two-game series sweep for Minnesota. They’ll now travel to Boston, while Chicago will fly to Seattle.
