Pat Riley pulled off a coup during last summer's free agency frenzy when he landed LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade in Miami. Today the Sporting News recognized Riley for his accomplishment, tabbing him as the NBA's top executive.
Pat Riley Named Executive Of The Year For Miami Heat Renovation
Riley received 14 votes narrowly beating out Chicago’s Gar Foreman who had 11. Denver’s Masai Ujiri finished third with five votes. The voting was done in a poll of 37 NBA executives.
The Sporting News used to be responsible for handing out the NBA's official award but now gives out its own honor. Riley oversaw a roster reconstruction last off season. In addition to luring James and Bosh to Miami, Riley also signed Mike Miller and later picked up Mike Bibby for the stretch run. Miami improved to 58 wins this season and finished just as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
