Kyle Orton Trade Rumors Start With Arizona Cardinals

The NFL lockout is in place which means NFL teams can not talk to players. But does that mean other team's players, too? Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton is being connected to the Arizona Cardinals in trade rumors swirling around the league despite the fact that, as of now, trades (and contact with the player) can not happen.

3TV in Arizona reports that the Cardinals have contacted the Broncos regarding Orton’s availability. Orton is entering the final year of his deal after the Broncos gave him a one-year extension prior to the 2010 season.

The last we heard from the Broncos staff at the NFL Combine, Orton was the starter, so it’s unclear what Denver’s position is. You also have the QB Tim Tebow factor. As a first round pick, you’d think Tebow’s got more of a future in Denver than Orton.

The Cardinals interest in Orton is being categorized as “Plan B”, according to the report, as their first target is Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb.

It’s becoming clear that, when the NFL lockout is lifted and trades are allowed, Orton will be among the quarterbacks discussed. Considering he won’t be as expensive as someone like Kolb (but also not as good) I imagine the Cardinals won’t be the only teams inquiring.
