We’re now a little over four hours removed from the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, and at this point, one of the primary concerns at Churchill Downs is the weather forecast. Indeed, on the second consecutive Derby Day, rain is falling in the Louisville area. From where I’m sitting (roughly two miles away from the Downs), the sky is overcast and it’s sprinkling intermittently.

However, we’re not likely to be in for a downpour. Though a storm is expected to roll through the area between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. local time, the chance of precipitation falls to 10 percent until 8 p.m., when another storm may pass through Louisville. Odds are, then, that by the scheduled 6:24 p.m. post time, the weather shouldn’t be a major factor.
