It was every bit as thrilling as we’d expect from a Kentucky Derby race. Shackleford stayed in front throughout much of the race, but that often bodes poorly for a horse. As Shackleford faded, Nehro and Mucho Macho Man charged. The real lightning, though, came courtesy of Animal Kingdom, who seemed to find another gear after the final turn to edge out the win. Well! That was fun.
