Clay Hensley Hits DL With Rib Injury

About a week ago, Marlins reliever Clay Hensley slipped at the team hotel and hurt himself. He didn't hurt himself bad, but he's been dealing with some soreness ever since, and on Saturday the team has decided to play it safe by sending Hensley to the DL.

The Marlins on Saturday have placed setup reliever Clay Hensley on the 15-day disabled list with a left rib contusion, and recalled right-hander Burke Badenhop from Triple-A New Orleans.

Through the early part of the season Hensley hasn’t quite pitched like himself, with eight walks and seven strikeouts in 13 innings. But he was an effective member of the Marlins’ relief corps a year ago, so the team’s still counting on him to make a contribution after he returns.

The 28-year-old Badenhop owns a career 4.43 ERA in the bigs, and has been working out of the AAA New Orleans bullpen. He'll take Hensley's roster spot, while Brian Sanches and/or Ryan Webb will take Hensley's setup role.
