Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz was on the disabled list three times last season, all for problems with his left leg. He had cramps, tightness, and strains in his left hamstring that allowed him to play in only 108 games. So the news that Cruz isn't on the DL for his left leg this time is probably a small victory. This time it's his right leg that's acting up, and the Rangers are taking the cautious route, putting him on the 15-day DL with a strained right quad.
Nelson Cruz Injury Puts Rangers Outfielder On DL
Cruz first felt pain on Tuesday night, and he was considered day-to-day, but the injury refused to heal quickly. To take Cruz's spot on the roster, the Rangers recalled 27-year-old outfielder Craig Gentry, who is a career .284/.355/.384 hitter in the minor leagues.
With Cruz and Josh Hamilton out at the same time, the Rangers are without two of the big bats they were counting in the middle of their order. With Josh Hamilton hoping he'll return in two weeks, it's possible that they'll have their full lineup ready to go when Cruz is eligible to return from the DL.
