Victor Rojas on Vernon Wells, who's going to be out of Orange County's lineup for a while after hurting himself during the fourth inning of Monday night's game.
Vernon Wells Exits Game With Groin Injury, Might Be DL’d
Vernon Wells to the DL w RT groin strain ... no corresponding move.
Groin strain? That’s what they’re calling a .179 batting average these days?
No, we kid Vernon Wells because we love his $126 million contract and the general managers who were cool with it.
In Wells’ defense, there are only two Angels with more home runs, and four with more Run Batted Ins. Also, when the guys hit the clubs after the games, he nearly always pays for the rookies’ lap dances. Because, you know, the $126 million.
With Bobby Abreu on the roster, the Angels aren't carrying a fourth outfielder. With Wells on the DL, they'll probably call up veteran Reggie Willits or prospect Jeremy Moore, with Abreu usually shifting from DH to outfield duties, Willits or Moore taking over in the late innings for defense, and maybe catcher Hank Conger getting some of Abreu's DH time. Which might actually satisfy one of Mike Scioscia's long-held fantasies, getting Conger and Jeff Mathis into the lineup together on a daily basis.
