According to a report by MMA Weekly, former Sengoku star Maximo Blanco is set to make his Strikeforce debut in September. The report states former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson will be his opponent. The details of the report are as follows:
Report: Josh Thomson Vs. Maximo Blanco For September Strikeforce
The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the match-up, stating bout agreements have been issued and signed for the fight expected to take place on September 10 in Strikeforce.
This is the first fight confirmed for the next major Strikeforce show set to go down September 10, but no location has been confirmed for the card.
Josh Thomson (18-4) returns to Strikeforce after a lengthy layoff from his last fight when he traveled to Japan on short notice to face Tatsuya Kawajiri at the New Year's Eve show for K-1 Dynamite! Thomson lost the fight, and then had to deal with an injured hand which has kept him on the sideline for the past few months.
This will ostensibly also be Blanco’s U.S. MMA debut.
