NCAA Baseball Super Regionals 2011, Texas Vs. Arizona State: Sun Devils Baseball Leads 2-1

It’s been an eventful start to the 2011 NCAA Baseball Super Regional matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Both teams are on the board thanks to some solid hitting, but both teams have their opposing defenses to thank for their runs much more than their own hitting.

Both starting pitchers are looking fine, but Taylor Jungmann was partially responsible for the runs that were scored on his watch, though both show on the box score as unearned. In the third inning, it appeared that he was going to get out of a jam with a double play after a slow grounder was hit right to him, but he threw the ball right between his second baseman and shortstop, allowing the runner to advance and eventually score. For some reason, the error was credited to Jordan Etier, meaning neither of Arizona State’s runs were earned runs for Jungmann.

Texas manufactured a run for themselves by bunting over Tant Shepherd, then driving him home on a single by Brandon Loy, but they still trail by a score of 2-1 after four innings.
