Potential Impact of Paying College Players on the NFL Draft

The College Football landscape has been rocked by numerous scandals that in one way or another involved an exchange of money or goods. The NCAA has many rules that prohibit college athletes from accepting money and goods relating to peformance on the field. The many controversies have led to calls for some sort of payment to college athletes.

This possible but highly unlikely scenario could have an impact on the NFL draft. The draft is made up of a ton of underclassmen most of which end up being selected in the top half of the draft. A lot of these athletes decide to enter the draft because of a chance at finical stability. There is even a group that leave school early because they face financial hardship and the NFL money offers help.

Imagine the possibility of less underclassmen in the draft because they are more financially stable. This could potentially thin the draft pool impacting your favorite NFL team. However, this situation might not be all bad because it would likely save some athletes from poor choices. Every year there are a few players that decide to enter the draft despite needing more time to develop. We maybe looking at less busts and more developed and impact players. Either way this possible but unlikely scenario would impact the game in many different ways.
