NCAA Baseball Super Regionals 2011, Texas Vs. Arizona State Final Score: Game 2 Goes To Longhorns

After their bats and defense failed to show up in Game 1 of their Super Regional, both did what they had to do in Game 2 for the Texas Longhorns, as they defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils to level their series and force a Game 3 on Sunday where the two teams will play for a trip to Omaha and a spot in the College World Series.

Jordan Etier, who was not great in any aspect of his game in Game 1, was the Longhorns’ best player, as he avoided costly defensive errors and hit 3-4 with 3 RBI. The Longhorns’ bullpen was nearly perfect, and they completely shut down Arizona State’s offense.

The Longhorns will be favorites to win Game 3 at home in Austin tomorrow with Sam Stafford on the mound. Stafford often walks a high volume of batters, but his strikeout rate is higher and his ERA is very good. Additionally, Texas has a deeper bullpen than Arizona State, though both bullpens are solid, and they’re probably better equipped to used a high volume of relief pitchers tomorrow.
