When the San Diego Padres signed Aaron Harang as a free agent, he was considered a pretty strong sleeper, given his background and his new pitching environment. And sure enough, through his first 13 starts, Harang posted a passable 3.71 ERA, providing for the Padres a bit of stability. But it hasn't all been rosy - in his most recent couple starts, Harang has pitched through pain in his foot, and now that pain has forced him to the disabled list.
Aaron Harang Injury: Padres Starter On DL, Anthony Bass Coming Up
Anthony Bass will make his Major League debut for the #Padres on Monday in Colorado. Harang goes on DL
Harang doesn’t know how he hurt his foot. X-rays haven’t revealed any damage. In those two starts, he’s allowed four runs in 12-2/3 innings. The whole thing is kind of a mystery, but if Harang hurts, he hurts, and the Padres are hoping that whatever is wrong gets better after two weeks of rest.
Taking Harang’s roster spot is Anthony Bass. A former fifth-round pick, Bass is a 23-year-old righty who has pitched with double-A San Antonio and triple-A Tucson, with a combined 3.41 ERA and 8.3 K/9. He’ll start for the Padres on Monday.
