Derek Jeter Injury: Yankees Captain Has Mild Calf Strain

During Monday night's game, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter took a step towards history when he collected his 2,994th career regular season hit. However, he later had to be removed from the game with soreness in his calf, having hurt himself running.

The Yankees immediately sent their shortstop in for an MRI to gain a clearer understanding of how badly he was injured. Via Joel Sherman, we get the results:

Jeter grade 1 strain in right calf. Not announcing if DL tonight

A grade 1 strain is the mildest of the three grades, implying minimal damage. Though the Yankees haven’t made anything known with regard to Jeter’s status just yet, the likelihood is that he’ll avoid a DL stint and be day-to-day until he’s better.

Until Jeter's back in the lineup, one can expect Eduardo Nunez to hold the shortstop position down. And until Jeter's back in the lineup, Yankees fans will have to wait to witness his milestone.
