Steve McLaren Announced As Nottingham Forest Manager

Former England manager Steve McLaren has agreed to become nPower Championship side Nottingham Forest’s next manager following Billy Davies’ firing on Sunday. McLaren, who’s slowly regained some of his lustre following a dismal spell in charge of the national team, had been fired by Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in February following poor results and a series of disputes with the board. Hopefully there’ll be no such issues at Forest - for now, chief executive Mark Arthur was only too happy to sing McLaren’s praises:

The club moved quickly to secure his services as it is rare for a manager and coach of his undoubted calibre to become available Steve has a proven track record of coaching and managing at club level, having played a key role in helping Manchester United secure the Champions League trophy, three Premier League titles and an FA Cup.

[He] guided Middlesbrough to the League Cup and also to the final of the UEFA Cup and led FC Twente to their first ever Dutch title. We are delighted to have him on board at the City Ground.

Note the pointed lack on mentioning the fact that McLaren held the England job, probably the most prestigious managerial position in the world. I wonder why that might be.

It was previously reported that Spieth, Thomas and Fowler all went in on Leeds United. That does not appear to be entirely the case.
