Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who has been on the disabled list since April 11 and hasn’t played since April 9 due to abdominal surgery, is to be activated and play Tuesday night, according to Aaron Gleeman at Hardball Talk.
Ryan Zimmerman Injury: Nationals Third Baseman To Be Activated Tuesday
Zimmerman has been on rehab assignment at Low-A Hagerstown, High-A Potomac and Triple-A Syracuse, where he hit a combined 8-for-21 (.381) with four extra-base hits and a 1.054 OPS. Before the injury, Zimmerman was off to a hot start with the Nats, hitting .357/.486/.536 in an admittedly small-sample-size 37 plate appearances over eight games.
The Nats need him, too; third base has been manned since Zimmerman’s injury primarily by Jerry Hairston and Alex Cora. The two have combined for a .255 batting average with two homers and a .648 OPS since April 10. That’s… well, it’s not very good.
The Nationals will host the Cardinals in the first of a three-game series Tuesday night.
