You may have heard that Ruud Gullit has been fired as manager of Terek Grozny on Tuesday after a hugely disappointing adventure with the Russian Premier League side. But even if you didn’t know he’d been given the boot, didn’t know he’d joined them int he first place, or if you didn’t know how Ruud Gullit is at all, the statement released by the Grozny is absolutely amazing:
Ruud Gullit, Terek Grozny Part Ways
Today, we must acknowledge that Gullit has not satisfied the expectations of the club’s board. Gullit’s actions at the helm of the team during this half year shows that he has no basic understanding of his players or his line-up.
Gullit has to know he has not been invited to spend his time at nightclubs, but rather to work at the football club and, moreover, get a result. Yes, we do not have drug abuse or indecent nightlife institutions, which are aplenty in Holland and Europe…But in Grozny there are all the conditions for people with a healthy lifestyle.
It’s slightly hard to parse just what on earth the club officials might be talking about here - they’ve claimed that Gullit spent too much time at nightclubs despite then saying Grozny had no indecent nightclubs or drug abuse, which... well, ok then. I don’t think there was anyone in the world who expected this experiment to go well anyway, but we got a laugh out of it, so it’s all good.
