Rookie Depth Chart Battles: Jarvis Jenkins

More and more NFL rookies are expected to contribute early in their careers. However, for them to make an impact they need to beat out a veteran player. We are going to analyze the situation of specific rookies and determine the likely hood of them winning a position battle.

Player: Jarvis Jenkins

Team: Washington Redskins

Position: Defensive line

Competition: Adam Carriker, Albert Haynesworth, Vonnie Holiday, Anthony Bryant, Jeremy Jarmon

Chance of winning the battle: 65 percent

Scouting Report

Thoughts: The Redskins went into the 2011 Draft looking to improve their defensive line. Jenkins is a nice looking prospect that has the ability to play any of the defensive line spots. The Redskins will be counting on Jenkins to be a major part of their defensive line rotation.

Looking at the defensive line depth chart, you get the feeling that this group is not capable of being an elite group. It appears very unlikely that Albert Haynesworth will be back with the team next season and even if he is he hasn’t played at a high level. Carriker had a decent season but is unlikely to develop into a Pro Bowl caliber player. Jenkins addition might not be the only piece added to the defensive line.

Jenkins has good bulk and a quick first step. He does a very good job anchoring and holding at the point of attack. For his size, he does a good job penetrating and creating pressure. Jenkins could easily win one of the defensive end starting jobs as well as rotate to nose tackle. His versatility will help his chances of earning snaps.
