Progress In The Selig Era

Until 1995, every World Series champion also won its division or league—prima facie evidence of discrimination in favor of good teams. With the adoption of the wild card, the doors of justice swung open just wide enough for second place teams to squeeze through. If Commissioner Selig’s bold new realignment plan is enacted, the franchise will extend all the way to fifth place teams.
