In the early part of the year, the Cleveland Indians were rolling. They were the surprise of baseball. Part of that spring juggernaut was designated hitter Travis Hafner, who hit .345/.409/.549 over 113 at-bats, giving the Indians a hope that he could return to his 2006 form rather than the perfectly acceptable, if a little dull, performances of the past couple of seasons.
Travis Hafner Activated By Cleveland Indians
An oblique tweak shut Hafner down, though, and after he went on the DL, the Indians went 9-16. Obviously the loss of Hafner can't completely explain the slide, but it sure didn't help that the Indians suddenly didn't have a DH hitting like one of the better DHs in the league. But now they can fell a little bit better, as Hafner is back from the DL. Just in time for that National League road trip next week! But for six games, the Indians are home, and Hafner is in the lineup and hitting cleanup against the Pirates tonight.
To make room on the roster, the Indians sent Travis Buck down to triple-A.
