The Cleveland Indians on Sunday joined the parade of other baseball teams to have fired a coach this season by dismissing hitting coach Jon Nunnally, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Twitter.

This seems like an odd decision, given the fact that the Tribe is still in first place in the AL Central and that they’re just about at league average in runs scored (302, in seventh place, just below the league average of 303, as of Sunday morning).

Clearly, this is a case of “what have you done for me lately”; the Indians are 6-11 during June and have scored only 53 runs in the 17 games.

Nunnally, a former major league player with the Royals, Reds, Red Sox and Yankees, had been in his second season as Indians hitting coach. He'll be replaced by Bruce Fields, another former major league outfielder (Mariners, Tigers) who has been the Indians' minor league hitting coordinator.
