Al’s terrific piece on the Cubs reminded me, as so many things do, of a scene in Road House. Just when the owner of The Double Deuce thinks his moribund club has turned a corner, Dalton (Patrick Swayze) cautions, “It’ll get worse before it gets better.”

↵Mike Quade has lately pointed to the team’s high OBP as a reason for optimism. But several Cubs (Fukudome, Johnson, Baker, Byrd) are sporting the best BABIP of their careers. And, as you know, the Cubs trail all of MLB in walks. Not even the best damn cooler in the world could save this team.
