After several months of qualifying, the U.S. Open Cup field is just about set and the first-round pairings have now been announced. With Division 2 teams not participating this year due to the uncertainty that surrounded NASL this offseason, the Division 3 USL-Pro will be the top level competing in the first two rounds. Eight MLS teams will join the tournament in the third round.
U.S. Open Cup First-Round Pairings Announced
There is one more spot that has yet to be decided, though, as the Kitsap Pumas and the Portland Timbers U-23's will allow their regular-season meeting on Friday to decide the final PDL spot. The two teams were tied at the end of qualifying, and usually that would mean the spot would be decided via lottery. But the two sides agreed to settle it on the field. The winner of that game will then advance to the tournament's main draw where they will face the Chivas El Paso Patriots.
