Chicago Bears star defensive end Julius Peppers' father, George Thomas Kurney, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, reports the Rocky Mount Telegram. Kurney had been a deputy for the Nash County Sheriff's Office where he worked for the last decade. Following his arrest, he has been dismissed from duty.

A join state-local investigation also arrested Donald Earl Buck on Wednesday, though both were released on $1,000 bonds each. Investigators involved in the case have not discussed details yet.

Peppers attended high school locally in the area and was a star football player for the North Carolina Tar Heels as well as a member of the university's basketball team. He was the No. 2 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2002 NFL Draft, but moved to the Bears prior to the 2010 season.
