One of the more interesting quarterback competitions right now is in Denver with the Broncos' Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn and Kyle Orton. Do you start Tebow? Do you trade Orton? Can Orton come back and compete for the job? Is this Brady Quinn's Shot?
Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn, Kyle Orton Will Compete For Broncos Starting QB
All important questions that will need to be answered. According to Broncos head coach John Fox, Tebow, Quinn and Orton will all have a chance to compete for the starting job, which suggests it’s no sure thing that Tebow wins the starting job, as many have figured.
“I’ve said it before and I mean it. It’ll be a competition,” Fox said. “Competition is what this game’s about, whether if it’s an opponent or a depth chart. It’s been this way as long as I can remember.”
There is one wrinkle to add here -- Orton is due over $8 million in 2011. That tells me there’s a chance he could be traded if the Broncos don’t feel he will be the starting quarterback. It’s just hard to envision a situation where Orton comes back to the team as a backup with that $8.8 million salary in 2011. If they feel Tebow is truly the answer at quarterback, then spending $8-plus million on a backup isn’t money well spent.
And then there’s Quinn. I’ve always advocated for him because his college success strongly suggests he would have been successful in the NFL but he hasn’t been to this point.
