The Vanderbilt Commodores took an early 4-0 lead in this 2011 College World Series elimination game with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Designated hitter Connor Harrell blistered a middle-of-the-plate pitch to left center field for a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning for the big damage.

After UNC went down 1-2-3 to start the game, Vandy’s Tony Kemp led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple. On a pitch up and outside, Kemp smacked it center field, sending CF Ben Bunting to chase it down. He scored during the next plate appearance when Anthony Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to RF Seth Baldwin.
North Carolina starter Greg Holt hit the next batter, 1B Aaron Westlake, but he quickly recovered from that when Curt Casali hit into an inning-ending double play. The Tar Heels threatened in the second inning following a leadoff double by C Jacob Stalling and a 2B Tommy Coyle walk, but Vandy starter Taylor Hill got consecutive strikeouts and a ground out to escape unscathed.
