College World Series 2011, UNC Vs. Vanderbilt Final Score: Commodores Eliminate Tar Heels With 5-1 Victory

The Vanderbilt Commodores eliminated the North Carolina Tar Heels from the 2011 College World Series following their 5-1 victory on Wednesday night. Vandy starter Taylor Hill was the key to victory, as he allowed just that one run in seven innings. Though he walked four and needed 126 pitches, he was able to use his sinker effectively throughout the night.

Vanderbilt went up early when Tony Kemp, who tripled to start the bottom of the first, scored on a sacrifice fly. Sophomore Connor Harrell blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 lead. Curt Casali added another Vandy home run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Tar Heels got on board in the top of the fifth with a bases-loaded ground out, but they were unable to do anymore after that. Hill was dominant and Corey Williams allowed zero runs and hits in his two innings of relief.

The Commodores will face the Florida Gators on Friday afternoon. If Vandy wants to advance to the championship series, they will need to beat the Gators twice.
