It’s new to us, so it’s new: earlier this month, the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs held Social Media Night. In the spirit of things, the players wore jerseys that stylized the team name as a Twitter handle (@ironpigs) and the player names as hashtags.

↵It was a perfectly appropriate acknowledgment of the evolution of public discourse, which has suddenly shifted into hyperdrive over the last five years. In the future, these jerseys may look unbelievably silly, just as a jersey that read, “http://www.mariners.com” in 1995 would look silly to us today (no hard evidence of that, but you know it happened somewhere).
