Once the forerunner of NFL Draft coverage online, the Sporting News NFL Draft War Room site is no more.
Sporting News NFL Draft War Room site disappears. No one notices
In the grand scheme of things, to many this is probably unimportant. The evidence of as much is the total lack of discussion online about it. That's crazy considering ridiculous things like a cosmos-flying cat covered in a Pop-Tart leads to thousands of words from young and old alike. Seriously, if you find anywhere talking about SN's War Room being gone, say so in the comments.
It seems the War Room content has simply been rolled into the regular mess that has become Sporting News’ website.
The Sporting News War Room was a good spot for different opinions, chiefly by former Browns scout Russ Lande. If nothing else, it was a good resource for historical perspective on how players were ranked. See, you could simply rejigger an SN URL and get the site's old information. Now if you try to go to the War Room (warroom.sportingnews.com), it redirects to SN's NFL page.
Now if you go to the NFL Draft page on the SN site, it simply has college and NFL links and 2011 results. Heck, the page seems to have more legal disclaimers than draft content.
For years, War Room was a subscription-based site. If memory serves, it was $25. Unless you’re a total cheap-ass, that’s not too bad. The site always had good writing and organization but really never made itself better than competitors like NFL Draft Scout.
But when Sporting News hooked up with AOL Fanhouse (and destroyed the careers of many), War Room became a free site.
Now, it’s become a non-existant site. Do you even care?
