Steve Soboroff was hired as Vice Chairman of the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 18th. His job entailed handling security issues at Dodger Stadium, amongst other things. The very next day Bud Selig and MLB announced they would be taking over operations of the team, apparently putting a severe cramp in Soboroff's style.
Steve Soboroff Resigns As Dodgers Vice Chairman
And so, two months later, Soboroff has handed in his letter of resignation.
On the day my appointment was announced, last April, I received hundreds of messages of support from people throughout Los Angeles. It was a great start!
Unfortunately, the very next day, an unanticipated action by the Commissioner of Major League Baseball resulted (understandably) in elevating the resolution of ‘control and ownership’ issues to top priority, which remains to this day. As a consequence, it is not possible for me to effectively work on the very initiatives and contributions that you had hired me to implement.
Soboroff spent much of his tenure with the Dodgers openly criticizing MLB for what he perceived to be an unfair takeover of the Dodgers, defending Frank McCourt at every turn and even calling MLB’s move "irresponsible."
Soboroff cut his teeth as a developer and senior advisor to former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. He’s also a longtime admirer of McCourt’s.
As for the Dodgers, the deadline for Frank McCourt to make next month’s payroll looms and all signs point to Bud & The League having to take over the team fully after he fails to do so.
