Athletics Vs. Phillies: Roy Halladay Defeats A’s, 3-1, For Fifth Complete Game

Roy Halladay (10-3) picked up his fifth complete game of the season in a dominant 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon. He is now tied with CC Sabathia, Jair Jurrjens and Justin Verlander for the MLB lead in wins.

Halladay scattered eight hits throughout the game, his only blemish coming in the fourth inning. Coco Crisp led off the inning with a bunt single and moved over to second base on a Hideki Matsui ground out to second. After Conor Jackson popped out in foul territory, Ryan Sweeney hit a soft single to shallow center field to score Crisp.

There was a tough situation in the seventh for Halladay when he allowed Conor Jackson and Scott Sizemore to reach base on a single and a double, respectively, with one out. But Halladay was able to get Landon Powell to pop out to second base and then struck out pinch-hitter David DeJesus to end the inning.

The Phillies scored twice in the first inning on a shallow single to left by Shane Victorino and a double play by Ryan Howard. In the fifth inning, Ben Francisco's bases load infield single scored Jimmy Rolling for the 3-1 lead.
