LA Galaxy Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts Out 4-6 Weeks With Broken Ulna

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts will be out 4-6 weeks after it was learned that broke his ulna on a collision with San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Khari Stephenson during Saturday's 0-0 draw. Ricketts was removed from the match and replaced by Josh Saunders, who will also be unavailable for the Galaxy's game on July 4 after he received a red card in the same match. Mike Magee was forced to play goalkeeper in that match and could very well serve as the backup for the immediate future.

That would seem to leave the Galaxy with starting third-stringer Brian Perk as their only option. Perk has never played in a MLS match after being drafted in 2010 by the Philadelphia Union. He was released on July 30 and claimed on waivers by the Galaxy a few days later. Perk did make eight appearances with the United States U-20 team, including at the 2009 U-20 World Cup.

Ricketts has been one of the league’s top goalkeepers since joining the Galaxy in 2009. He was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010 and has registered 26 shutouts in 67 matches. He has also compiled a 34-13-18 record.
