College World Series 2011: 15 Seconds That Cost Florida Game 1 Against South Carolina

With the shine of the bright lights focused squarely on the Florida Gators’ first trip to the College World Series Finals since 2005, an abrupt symphony of errors ruined what seemed to be a sure-fire series opening win against South Carolina.

Gamecock sophomore Christian Walker’s attempt to steal second base in the top of the 11th inning somehow devolved into the winning run after successive throwing errors by Gators catcher Mike Zunino and centerfielder Bryson Smith. Video highlights after the jump.

In a three game series, giving away the first can be an intimidating hole to climb out of. Even more so when delivered in such a devastating fashion. It will be fascinating to see if Florida has the mental strength to recover from the shock with such a short turnaround.
