Tuesday night’s Game 2 of the College World Series Championship Series night just be the final game of the 2011 college baseball season. If that’s the case, the two pitchers taking the mound could have a lot to say in determining if the South Carolina Gamecocks will be champions or if the Florida Gators will live to play one more day.
College World Series Game 2: Michael Roth, Karsten Whitson Set For Pitchers’ Duel
The Gamecocks will send junior ace Michael Roth to the hill. Roth earned first-team All-America honors after finishing the regular season with a 13-3 record and 1.02 ERA. His 1.17 conference ERA was the best mark in the SEC as well.

With its season on the line, Florida will put the ball in the hands of a freshman. Third starter Karsten Whitson will get his 19th start of the season with a chance to extend the Gator’s. The righty has a perfect 8-0 record with a 2.43 earned run average.
The first time around against the Gamecocks, he threw five innings and 73 pitches, allowing one earned run on two hits and five strikeouts.
