Jose Tabata Injury: Pirates Outfielder On DL With Quad Strain

On Sunday, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata legged out a bunt for an infield single. However, he then proceeded to fall to the ground and had to be carted off the field. He was diagnosed with a left quad strain, and on Tuesday, the Pirates have placed him on the disabled list.

The Pirates placed outfielder Jose Tabata on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, due to the left quadriceps strain he suffered in Sunday's loss to Boston. Taking Tabata's spot in left field against the Blue Jays on Tuesday will be Alex Presley, who was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

There’s no indication just yet of how long Tabata will be out. The injury certainly didn’t look good at the time. Tabata leaves behind a .705 OPS with 14 steals and a remarkably good K/BB for a player his age.

As for Alex Presley, the 25-year-old lefty hitting outfielder comes up from triple-A Indianapolis, where he owned an .889 OPS. He isn’t thought of as a top prospect or impact player, but he runs very well and has a surprising amount of power, so as Jose Tabata replacements go, he’s not bad.
