New York Yankees starting pitcher Bartolo Colon has been a marriage of the surprising and unsurprising this season. Surprising: a veteran pitcher came out of retirement to lead the Yankees' rotation in ERA and K/9. Not surprising: a 250-pound, 38-year-old pitcher had problems with his hamstring and had to go on the disabled list. Colon last pitched on June 11 before going on the DL.
Bartolo Colon Likely To Return Saturday
There is positive news, though, from MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch:
There's "a good likelihood" Bartolo Colon will pitch for Yankees at Mets on Saturday, Cashman says
Brian Gordon took Colon's rotation spot after the injury, pitching adequately over two starts, but certainly nothing up to the level that Colon had established in the 2001 season. I mean, 2011 season. I keep doing that when writing about Colon for some easily explainable reason ...
Colon threw a four-inning simulated game with 15 pitches each inning on Monday without incident.
