If you don’t think the opening days of the NCAA Baseball Tournament are as crazy and awesome as March Madness, then your problem is that you don’t like baseball nearly as much as you like basketball. There have been some fantastic thrillers so far on Day One, while some of the favorites have also advanced with ease.

Two of those favorites are Miami and Virginia, who had little problem defeating Jacksonville and Navy, respectably. Miami put their game in doubt in odd fashion, pulling their starting pitcher in the sixth, then using three relievers in quick succession, but their offense put the game beyond doubt late. Virginia never looked like losing, taking an early lead and building on it without allowing a run.
NC State-Stetson and FIU-James Madison were the two highlights of the early games, at least for people who like offense. James Madison defeated FIU 11-7 in a wild one, while Stetson beat NC State 8-7 in an impressive comeback win.
At the time of this posting, Georgia and Creighton are involved in a fantastic game. The Bulldogs went up 1-0 in the 7th inning after both starting pitchers put in great performances to start the game, but Creighton answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Georgia was unable to score in the top of the 8th, and their pitching will have to keep the game within reach in the bottom of the inning. Elsewhere, Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma are in extra innings, and Dallas Baptist have scored in the 10th inning to take the lead.
