The Florida Marlins have been without star shortstop Hanley Ramirez since last Sunday, when he aggravated a back problem. They took things day by day and said that they'd make a decision on whether or not to place Ramirez on the disabled list on Friday. But according to Christina De Nicola, that decision date has now been pushed back:
Hanley Ramirez Injury: Marlins Delay DL Decision
Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said on Friday that the team would wait until Monday to make a decision on putting Hanley Ramirez on the disabled list.
The Marlins bought more time when they had to place reliever Clay Hensley on the disabled list on Friday with a shoulder injury. In Hensley's place, infielder Osvaldo Martinez was promoted, giving the team a second shortstop while Ramirez is sidelined.
Still, this buys only a few days, and the Marlins will need to clear a roster spot on Monday because they need a starting pitcher for Tuesday. If Ramirez is feeling sufficiently well, Martinez will presumably go away. However, if Ramirez is still limited, then he’ll finally be given a longer, enforced rest.
